Foot Pain: The Symptoms, Causes, And Prevention
Foot pain is a difficult problem to deal with once it begins. It is nearly impossible in today's world to take the time to let them heal properly, and there are numerous causes that can easily be determined. A great deal of foot pain can be erased by doing some shoe shopping. The likely culprit is poorly fitting shoes. Buy shoes with arch and ankle support and wear gel insoles. Gel insoles are an inexpensive way to save your feet from more serious and lasting injury. Especially if you engage in rigorous or high impact exercise, these simple inserts will not only help to protect you from common injuries like corns, acute knee ankle injuries, calluses, blisters, and Metatarsalgia, but also increase the effectiveness of your exercise by improving the posture. Poor posture displaces pressure and does irreparable damage to the small bones in the toes or balls of the feet. By walking correctly, many issues and injuries can be avoided. Keep your back straight and head up with arms swinging relaxed at your side. While stepping, start with weight on the heel, push the through on the outside of the foot, and roll up to push off with the big toe. Another less obvious reason is simply temperature changes. As the foot gets hotter and colder, it expands and contracts respectively. A good remedy is to fill a water bottle three-quarters full of water, put in the freezer, and use it to roll over irritated areas.
There are several more serious causes of foot pain like arthritis, Diabetes, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis. Diabetes is a leading medical cause of foot pain as the nerves to the muscles to feel weak and achy. Eventually balance becomes affected and can result in extreme pain. A symptom of Diabetes is poor blood circulation which can result in numbness and swelling. Muscle spasms are common for those with Diabetes. This creates stiffness in the tendons and joints, and can affect your alignment while walking. Any foot pain felt is abnormal and you should consult a doctor before diagnosing or self-medicating for the discomfort that you feel. This foot pain could be indicative of a much more serious physical condition.
There are also many ways that it can be prevented almost completely. Take time to inspect feet on a regular basis by checking for any growths, cuts, or discolored nails. These regular check-ups can stop athlete's foot and other infections before they even start. When cutting toenails, cut straight across and avoid clipping too closely on the sides to prevent ingrown toenails. Ingrown toenails can be extremely painful. To prevent infection, a person with a serious medical conditions like Diabetes or those with poor circulation or heart problems should not cut their own toenails or treat their own foot pain as they are more likely to get an infection. For people with those physical problems, they should see a pediatric physician, a doctor who specializes in foot problems and pain, minimum of once a year.
